With the option of getting a gloss or semi-gloss finish, film-forming sealers prevent the darkening of the concrete and increase the chemical resistance. Within film-forming sealers, there are two varieties present; water-based sealers and solvent-based sealers.
Water-based sealers have a low gloss finish, and hence, they cause minimal darkening of the concrete. Consequently, it is highly resistant to chemicals. At the same time, solvent-based sealers have got a high gloss finish and darken the concrete tiles. Hence, it improves color development as well.
Film-forming sealers are like the ultimate protection because they create a physical barrier on the paver surface. Not to mention that since pave sealants need to be reapplied after a maximum of 5 years, with film-forming sealers, it is easier to see signs of wear and tear that indicate that reapplication is needed. Film-forming sealers are only recommended if you have stamped concrete or broom-finished concrete.
Matt Finish Pave Sealants
Matte finish paver sealants will not alter the look of your brick pavers as film-forming sealers would. It still preserves the paver surface and keeps it protected from any unwanted moisture. They are also known as penetrating water-repellants that protect the surface by having brick wavers from water, chemicals, and any freeze or thaw damage. However, the drawback of using this is that it does not protect against grease spills or stains.
Since they do not change the appearance of brick pavers, they are recommended for smooth troweled concrete or broom finished concrete. It can also be used for natural and manmade stone pavers.
